Through My Eyes
|
Grateful Thanksgiving has always been a time for family and this year was not exception. But it was very different. Last year both my mom and Aunt Vangie were with us. This year mom's in a nursing home and Aunt Vangie's in Heaven. Milinda and I had decided to take our dads out and just not deal with a home cooked meal this year, but we changed our minds at the last minute and cooked. It was really simple, yet comforting. I went to see mom for dinner, as I do every night I'm able to, and she was pretty happy. She loves that dad and I go to see her every day. Some people may not understand how we can go every day, but I can't imagine not going. I've been so blessed, my parents are amazing people who always gave of themselves to family and friends. They truly understood what "No day but today" meant long before RENT was even imagined. They taught me to love fully not superficially, to give of yourself to others and not expect anything in return other than a "thank you", and to value your family and friends above all else....because in the end they're the measure of your worth in this world not how much money you have. Grateful...Thankful...you bet! It's been an incredibly hard year for me and it's looking like the year to come is going to bring more challenges. But I know that with the love and support of family and friends, and my faith in God I'll get through it.
